Terminal
Terminal, Overview
Your real shell, in the same window as your code. One keystroke opens it.
Opening a terminal
Press Ctrl+` to show or hide the integrated terminal. It starts in your workspace folder and runs your system default shell: PowerShell or Command Prompt on Windows, zsh or bash on macOS and Linux, or whatever else you set.
Shell Integration & Profiles
Command decorations, working-directory detection, and more than one shell profile side by side.
Tasks
Turn a command you run often into a task you can start with one click, or have it start on its own.
Managing multiple terminals
Open more than one
Click the + in the terminal panel's tab bar, or press Ctrl+Shift+`, to open another terminal.
Split panes
Click the split icon to divide the panel and run two shells side by side. A dev server in one pane and quick commands in the other is a common setup.
Rename and group
Right-click a terminal tab to rename it, change its icon or color, or move it into a split group. That helps once several are running for different jobs.
Kill or restart
Close a terminal with the trash icon, or restart the same profile in a fresh instance from the dropdown next to it.
Terminal and Gyaanmitra AI
When Gyaanmitra AI installs a dependency or runs your tests, it uses this same terminal. You see the command in a real session, and you can take that session over yourself. See Tools, Rules & Context for how command approvals work.
Clear scrollback without losing your prompt
Ctrl+K clears the terminal's scrollback and keeps your current shell session. That is quicker than closing the terminal just to get a clean view.
