Editing Markdown

.md and .markdown files get syntax highlighting, folding, and IntelliSense for links and workspace paths. When you want to tidy the structure, formatters and table helpers are in the Command Palette.

Preview

Markdown: Open Preview (or Open Preview to the Side) renders the document as you edit. Sync scrolling keeps the preview near the section you are writing.

Links and images

Workspace-relative links and image paths are checked when that is possible. A broken relative path shows up as a warning, so a README image does not quietly 404 after you move a file.

Diagrams and extras

Extra preview features (math, Mermaid diagrams, and similar) ship as bundled or optional extensions. Install from Open VSX if you need more than the core Markdown experience.
