JSON

Schema-aware editing for JSON and JSONC: completion, validation, and folding for the config files you edit all the time.

Built-in JSON support

JSON language features ship with Gyaanmitra. Open a .json or .jsonc file and the language server starts on its own.

Schemas and settings

Many familiar files already map to a schema: package.json, tsconfig.json, .vscode/settings.json, and others. You get property completion, and a red squiggle when a value is wrong.

Point your own schemas at files in settings:

settings.json
{
  "json.schemas": [
    {
      "fileMatch": ["my-config.json"],
      "url": "./schemas/my-config.schema.json"
    }
  ]
}

When a schema is active, the JSON item in the status bar shows which schema applies, and you can open related documentation from there.

Formatting and folding

Format Document and Format on Save work for JSON. Large documents fold by object and array. If a huge file feels slow, folding limits are something you can change.

JSONC for comments

Use .jsonc when you need comments. Gyaanmitra already treats many .vscode/* configs as JSONC. Strict .json rejects comments.
