Customize Gyaanmitra
Settings
Everything you can change lives in one searchable list. Use the form, or edit the JSON directly.
Opening Settings
Press Ctrl+, (Cmd+, on macOS) or run Preferences: Open Settings from the Command Palette. You get a searchable, grouped UI. The icon in the top-right switches to the raw JSON, which is handy when you want to edit it yourself or paste a config someone sent you.
Settings scopes
User settings
Apply everywhere, in every workspace you open. These are your personal defaults.
Workspace settings
Apply only in the current folder or multi-root workspace. They live in
.vscode/settings.json, so you can commit them and share them with your
team.
Workspace settings win over user settings for anything they set. A project can ask for a certain tab size or formatter, and your personal defaults stay as they are everywhere else.
Finding the setting you want
The search box matches setting names, descriptions, and related words.
Search "wrap" and you will see editor.wordWrap, even if you did not know
the exact ID. Once you find a setting in the UI, its ID is shown beside it,
so next time you can jump straight to it in JSON.
{
"editor.fontSize": 14,
"editor.wordWrap": "on",
"files.autoSave": "onFocusChange",
"workbench.colorTheme": "Gyaanmitra Dark"
}Settings Sync
Turn on Settings Sync from the Accounts icon to keep your settings, keybindings, snippets, and installed extensions the same on every machine where you use Gyaanmitra.
Language-specific settings
You can limit a setting to one language by nesting it under a language ID. A different tab size for Python and JavaScript in the same workspace looks like this:
{
"[python]": {
"editor.tabSize": 4
},
"[javascript]": {
"editor.tabSize": 2
}
}
