Setup
Gyaanmitra on Windows
Native builds for x64 and Arm64 Windows. Use the installer, or a portable ZIP if you would rather not install.
Choosing your download
Most Windows PCs are x64. Windows on Arm devices (like Surface Pro X and newer Snapdragon-based laptops) need the Arm64 build so they run natively. To check which you have, open Settings → System → About and look at System type.

System Installer vs. User Installer
The Windows installer comes in two kinds:
User Installer (recommended)
Installs into your user profile. You do not need administrator rights. On a shared PC, each Windows user can have their own installation and settings.
System Installer
Installs for the whole machine, into Program Files, so every account
on the PC shares it. You need administrator rights. This is the one to
use on locked-down or managed company machines.
Both installers register the .exe on your PATH
After either install, open a terminal (PowerShell, Command Prompt, or
Windows Terminal) and run gyaanmitra . to open the current folder in
Gyaanmitra. If the command is not found, restart your terminal. PATH
changes only show up in new terminal sessions.
Portable ZIP
If you would rather not install anything, download the .zip instead of the
installer. That is handy for a USB drive, a restricted machine, or keeping
a few versions side by side. Extract it anywhere and run Gyaanmitra.exe.
See Portable Mode for where settings and
extensions are stored when you run it this way.
Windows-specific notes
Windows Defender / SmartScreen
The first time you run it, Windows may show a SmartScreen prompt because the binary is not yet trusted by Microsoft's reputation system. Choose More info → Run anyway. This is normal for a newly released app with its own signature.
Long path support
Deeply nested project folders (common with some JavaScript tooling) can hit Windows' old 260-character path limit. Gyaanmitra itself handles long paths. If a build tool you are running still complains, turn on long path support via Local Group Policy Editor → Computer Configuration → Administrative Templates → System → Filesystem → Enable Win32 long paths.
WSL for a Linux-native toolchain
If your project's tools expect a Linux environment, install the WSL extension and open the project from inside a WSL distribution. See Remote Development.
Uninstalling
Use Settings → Apps → Installed apps, search for Gyaanmitra, and choose
Uninstall. That removes the application. Your workspace settings and
extensions in %APPDATA%\Gyaanmitra stay put, so a reinstall picks up where
you left off. To remove those too, see
Portable Mode & Uninstalling.
