Setup
Gyaanmitra on macOS
One universal build covers both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.
Download and install
macOS ships as one universal .dmg. It contains native binaries for Apple
Silicon (M-series) and Intel, so you do not pick an architecture. Open the
.dmg, then drag Gyaanmitra.app into your Applications folder.
'Gyaanmitra' can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer
If macOS Gatekeeper blocks the first launch, right-click (or Control-click) Gyaanmitra.app in Finder, choose Open, and confirm in the dialog. You only need to do this once.
Launching from the terminal
Gyaanmitra can install a gyaanmitra command on your shell PATH, so you can
open folders from Terminal or iTerm:
Open the Command Palette
Launch Gyaanmitra, then press Cmd + Shift + P.
Run the install command
Type Shell Command: Install 'gyaanmitra' command in PATH and select it.
Restart your terminal
Open a new terminal window or tab, then run:
gyaanmitra .from inside any project folder.
Apple Silicon notes
The Apple Silicon build runs natively, without Rosetta. Startup is quicker,
and it uses less memory than an Intel build running under emulation. If you
previously installed an Intel-only build under Rosetta, replacing it with
the current universal .dmg switches you to the native build. You do not
need a separate download.
Keeping Gyaanmitra up to date
Gyaanmitra checks for updates on its own and asks you to restart when a new
version has finished downloading. You can also check by hand from the
Command Palette with Check for Updates…, or turn automatic checks off
in Settings under update.mode.
Uninstalling
Quit Gyaanmitra, then drag Gyaanmitra.app from Applications to the Trash.
Your settings, extensions, and Gyaanmitra AI configuration live in
~/Library/Application Support/Gyaanmitra and ~/.gyaanmitra. Remove those
folders too if you want a completely clean start. See
Portable Mode & Uninstalling for the full list of
locations.
